Crabbers / Shrimpers
Crabbing off the Washington Coast is believed to have started around 1880. The Dungeness Crab is named for a fishing village along the Straits of Juan de Fuca. In 2012, the total coast-wide catch ranged from 35-55 million pounds annually.
Crab traps are used most often in the waters off Washington and the Oregon Coast. The traps weigh anywhere from 25 – 125 pounds.
