1980s - Decline in Everett’s Fishing Industry
The 1980s saw a marked decline in Everett’s fishing industry. The depleted salmon population combined with rising costs of fuel to operate the boats made it harder for fishermen to make a living.
In the early 1990's, the final fish processor, Olympic Fish Company, closed it's doors. The number of fishermen and vessels diminished under the pressure of dwindling fish runs, government regulations, and escalationg costs of operation.
